Engineers Ireland

Brand and UI/UX performance for Member Growth

The Brief: 30,000 members. A platform that wasn't working hard enough for them.

Engineers Ireland is the professional body for over 30,000 engineers across every discipline in Ireland, an organisation with genuine authority, a century of heritage, and a membership that represents some of the most qualified professionals in the country. The digital platform did not reflect any of that. It was dated, difficult to navigate, and not structured to convert the organisation’s credibility into meaningful member action.

The result was a costly gap: potential members who couldn’t find what they needed, existing members disengaged from CPD and events, and an institutional brand that felt smaller than the organisation it represented. CDG was brought in to close that gap, and to build a platform that could keep growing as the organisation did.

Authority without accessibility is just reputation. The job was to turn Engineers Ireland’s standing into daily member value.

The Challenge: Authority that wasn't converting

Engineers Ireland had authority and heritage in abundance, but that wasn’t translating into easy action. Members struggled to find accreditation, titles like Chartered Engineer, events and resources, and the platform wasn’t structured to scale. The job was to convert credibility into conversions without losing the institution’s standing.

The Strategy: Convert credibility into conversions.

CDG’s starting point was commercial, not aesthetic. We mapped the actions that matter most to Engineers Ireland’s growth, joining or upgrading membership, registering for CPD and events, pursuing accreditation and professional titles like Chartered Engineer, and built the entire experience around removing friction from those journeys.

The strategic principle was simple: every page should have a purpose, every path should lead somewhere useful, and the organisation’s institutional credibility should be doing active commercial work rather than sitting in the background. The brand refresh brought the visual identity into alignment with that ambition: modern, clear, and confident, without departing from the heritage and authority the organisation had earned.

The Work: Journeys built around high-value actions.

CDG rebuilt the site around priority user journeys, simplified navigation, and a component-based architecture that lets Engineers Ireland publish new programmes, events, and resources without rebuilding any part of the platform. Accessibility best practice and performance standards were built in throughout, not as an afterthought, but as a structural requirement for an organisation serving a professional audience across every device and environment.

A reusable brand toolkit: page components, typography and colour tokens, and usage guidance. Giving internal teams the means to publish at scale without eroding the visual consistency the rebuild established.

The Outcome: A more engaged membership. A platform built to keep growing.

Engineers Ireland reported increased member engagement in the period following launch — a signal that the work was achieving its core objective: making it easier for members and prospective members to find value and take action. Paths to the highest-value journeys: joining, renewing, registering for CPD, pursuing professional titles. Now, are materially shorter and clearer than before.

Equally important: the platform is built to sustain its own performance. A reusable component library and content governance system mean Engineers Ireland can keep publishing consistently at scale, without the repeat investment that a less thoughtfully built platform would require. That is what a growth-oriented digital investment looks like, not just better at launch, but better by design over time.
