New Look for an Old Favourite

Brand Identity Digital / Website Design Motion Strategy

The Context: The heartbeat of the local community for 25 years.

Blanchardstown Centre has been the anchor retail destination for its community since 1996. Over 25 years it built genuine loyalty, real footfall, and a market position that no competitor had managed to displace. But loyalty is not the same as dominance, and as competitors like Dundrum Town Centre and Liffey Valley invested in their own repositioning, the pressure on Blanchardstown to lead rather than simply hold its ground became a commercial priority.

A landmark redevelopment,  new anchor brands including Mango and Hollister, extensive repositioning across the malls, gave Blanchardstown the physical asset to lead. CDG was brought in to ensure the digital and brand presence matched the ambition of the property.

The Opportunity: A major redevelopment that needed a digital story

A landmark redevelopment: new anchor brands like Mango and Hollister, extensive repositioning across the malls, needed a digital presence to match. The commercial challenge: translate a refreshed brand and a physical transformation into an online destination that would deepen engagement and drive footfall.

The Challenge: Outperform the competition. Not just keep pace.

Blanchardstown was not repositioning in a vacuum. Dundrum and Liffey Valley were competing for the same shoppers with significant investment of their own. The brief was not to catch up,  it was to pull ahead. CDG benchmarked the existing platform against key competitors, mapped detailed audience personas, and set out to build a customer-first digital destination that would put Blanchardstown clearly ahead across every brand touchpoint.

The strategic objective was explicit from the outset: not a better version of what already existed, but a step-change in how Dublin’s shoppers engaged with the Centre online and how they thought about it relative to alternatives.

The question we asked was not ‘how do we match Dundrum?’ It was ‘what does a market-leading retail destination look like digitally?’ Then we built that.

The Strategy: A customer-first destination platform, built on real user insight.

CDG rebuilt the entire digital experience around real user research, mapping and refining every journey until the path from landing to action was seamless. Bespoke photography and original video replaced generic imagery, giving the platform the visual quality the Centre’s physical redevelopment deserved. A responsive, elegantly simple interface gave Blanchardstown a digital home that reflected its scale and its ambition.

The strategic outcome was explicit: a platform that positioned Blanchardstown ahead of its competitors, not alongside them. Design and UX were the means; competitive brand leadership was the goal.

Early impact: measurable lift from day one

The reposition delivered fast. Within days of launch, traffic was up 200%, bounce rate fell by 50%, and social interaction rose 160% – a clear signal that the new brand and platform were connecting with audiences from the outset, landing in time for the Centre’s 25th anniversary in 2021.
